Research Description:

My lab group is focused on application of recent genomic technologies to understand the functions of connective tissue elements of the skin and heart during development and in disease states. Current projects include:
1) the use of expression profiling and comparative sequence analysis to identify functional non-coding regulatory elements responsible for co-expression of cardiac determination genes;
2) use of expression profiling of cardiac myocytes subjected to different hypertrophic stimuli to understand the molecular basis of different forms of hypertrophy and mechanisms of hypertrophy regression;
3) expression "fingerprinting" of dermal fibroblasts to understand abnormal collagen fibrillogenesis due to disease causing mutations in humans and gene-targeting in mice.
